PUBLIC COMPUTER USE POLICY |
| Some of the computer stations are available for
general usage, including e-mail, chat, and games. Other computer stations serve
a dedicated purpose and are to be used for the purpose of research, genealogy,
online catalog, inter-library loans, online classes, or other specialized or
educational purposes. Content
generated at any workstation MUST NOT have illicit or obscene references, or
reflect illegal or commercial activities. |
| |
| Children's stations, located in
the children's area, are designated for those persons under the age of
fourteen. Only the parent or guardian accompanying the child who is thirteen or
under may use the children's stations. |
| |
| All patrons must have a current library card with no fines over $2.00 to
begin a session. Sessions are limited to 60 minutes per session and 6 sessions per day.
Check at the circulation desk or online at http://catalog.webster.lib.la.us for fine information. |
| |
| If
patrons are working on a project and no one is waiting, they may request that extra time be added to a
session. The added time needs to be requested in enough time for
reference staff to add it before the session ends. All added time will
be deducted from days total limit. |
| |
| If the library is busy, we will attempt to accommodate each person by limiting the time to one
hour increments, or less in extreme conditions. If a patron would like
to have another session, that patron will need to ask reference staff,
at which time the patron will be given a scheduled time and computer. There will be a 5 minutes grace period to start the scheduled session,
after which time the computer will be reassigned. Preference will be given to those patrons who have not had time on a
computer. Under special circumstances the library staff reserves the
right to further limit the time allotted to each individual patron. |
| |
| Patrons who leave a computer
station and exit the reference area during their allotted time, will have 10
minutes to return before the computer is reassigned. Exceptions will be
made at staff's discretion. |
| |
| Patrons can bring their own floppy
disk or writable CD, or purchase one from the library for a fee of
$1.00, each. They may also engage a portable USB drive to designated
PC's. Check with a staff member. |
| |
| Because of the possibility of VIRUS contamination, downloading of programs
will be monitored and patrons will not be permitted to use disks, CD's,
portable USB drives, or any other memory device without first consulting
with a staff member. |
| |
| Public access computers are set to automatically
shut down at approximately 15 minutes before library closing. |
| |
| Any data that has not been saved
to a portable device will be permanently lost upon end of session. The library cannot be held responsible for lost data or damage to floppy
disks, CD's, or USB drives. |
| |
| Patrons can make copies and
printouts for a fee of $1.00 per color copy and 10ยข per
black and white copy. |
| |
| Wireless users must sign up at the
information desk located in the reference area of the library and be
assigned a password. |
| |
| Patrons must sign up at the
information desk located in the reference area of the library to gain
access to a study room. |
